The day belongs to Caitlin Clark. She brought up one of the most coveted spectacles in the college basketball world by surpassing the legendary Pete Maravich to become the all-time leading men’s and women’s basketball combined scorer. Clark received wishes from all the quarters. She had her inspiration Maya Moore attending the game. The other names that were present at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena were Nolan Ryan, Travis Scott, and Jake from Statefarm.

Clark has earned a new fan in the former tennis player Billie Jean King. King put up a story on Instagram congratulating Clark for her acclaimed milestone.
What did King say?

The 80-year-old reposted a picture of Clark on her story that had the list of top four all-time leading scorers. After Clark’s name, there were Pete Maravich, Antoine Davis, and Lynette Woodard. The post had an image of Clark ready to sit on a throne and 6 goats, 3 on each side lined up next to Clark. It was a subtle hint at Clark’s greatest of all-time status.

King looked delighted to have watched Clark in action as she wrote, “She’s done it! Congratulations to the indomitable @caitlinclark22 who has smashed a 54-year-old record and has become the NCAA all time leading scorer!” The caption of the congratulatory message also had a basketball emoji attached to it.
Clark started off slow on the senior day as she was surrounded and screened by her opponents. She had a decent 6-for-17 three-pointer tally and fans were waiting for the NCAA queen to bring up the record with her signature shot. But since she was crowded over by her opponents, Clark found it difficult to get done with the record initially.
Nonetheless, she tried her best and the opportune moment came when she was given free throws. Clark potted the free throw as spectators stood in awe and thus she went past Pete Maravich. This has taken women’s sports way ahead as fans are equally excited to watch the NCAA women’s basketball as they are for the men’s sports. The attendance at NCAA women’s games is a complete sell-out due to Clark. King too in her glory days had advocated for equality in men’s and women’s sports. She was a central figure in the formation of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Meanwhile, Clark is not done yet.

Clark has just completed her regular season and now will be seen in the conference tournament and then in the March Madness where she’ll go for the NCAA Champion title. Meanwhile, there were a host of celebrities who applauded Clark.
Who congratulated Clark?
The NBA superstar LeBron James commended: “CONGRATS @CaitlinClark22 on becoming the All-Time leading scorer!!” Similarly, US President Joe Biden also joined the bandwagon of stars heaping praises on Clark: “Congratulations to Caitlin Clark on making history as the NCAA all-time leading scorer. With 3,685 points and counting, you’ve made your school proud,” Biden tweeted.
