India registered a dramatic four-wicket victory over Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in front of 90,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23. Following this, the Rohit Sharma-led team beat the Netherlands comprehensively by 56 runs in their second match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, October 27.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 179 runs for the loss of just two wickets in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries. In order to chase the target of 180 runs, the Netherlands scored 123 runs in 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets.
After playing the match against India after 11 years, Dutch fast bowler Paul van Meekeren has urged the international teams to play against the Netherlands cricket team instead of the English county team during their tour of England. This would act as a major boost for his team.
There’s No Reason Why Test Teams Can’t Come To Holland – Paul Van Meekeren
“There’s no reason why Test teams can’t come to Holland instead of playing the counties. Hopefully as a non-cricketing nation, these big players can walk the streets without being recognized so they have more freedom playing in Holland. This year hopefully we showed how good the wickets are in Holland.”
“The practice wickets were outstanding back home, and we played some competitive games. We’ve got the facilities. We can be as competitive as playing the warm-up game against other countries. Why not come to Holland for ten days before they (the big teams) travel to England?” said van Meekeren after the end of India-Netherlands match in Men’s T20 World Cup at Sydney Cricket Ground.
As part of their participation in the ODI Super League, the Netherlands hosted ODI matches against the West Indies, England, and Pakistan. The ICC has decided to cancel the ODI Super League, which will be suspended after the World Cup to be held in India next year.
