‘Mean Girls’ out at Barstool Sports after week of drama

The “Mean Girls” are done at Barstool Sports just one week after they joked about not being a part of the company’s recent layoffs.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy revealed on Tuesday that he decided not to renew the contracts for Alex Bennett and Jordyn Woodruff, who host the “Mean Girls” podcast, after a series of events at the company.
Portnoy — who bought back the company from Penn Entertainment for $1 last month — explained on Barstool Radio that his decision came after Bennett and Woodruff ghosted fellow host, Kevin Clancy (known as KFC) when he asked them to be judges at the Barstool OnlyFans pageant.
“I talked to Alex today about that because I caught wind of it, because I asked if they were in the office,” Portnoy said, adding that Alex told him she was sick. “They’re done.”
When Clancy asked if the hosts were fired, Portnoy said “no.”
“Her contract was up, so it was in the midst of whether we were going to renew it,” he said. “I was not happy with everything going on around here with layoffs and the speeches I’ve given.

“When I heard that story, it was not what I wanted to hear. I do like Alex a lot. I don’t know Jordyn nearly as well as I do Alex.”
Portnoy added that Bennett’s contract was “already up,” and that Woodruff’s was “coming up” in two weeks when he made the decision.
“To be honest, based on some of the decisions, maybe they weren’t planning on staying anyways,” Portnoy said, to which Clancy added, “I think that’s where they were.”
Portnoy went on to explain that he doesn’t have a grudge against Bennett and Woodruff.

“Now, it’s like, am I going to give them the [podcast] IP, which I’m inclined to do. I don’t really have a grudge and if they can go do something on their own, probably more power to them,” Portnoy said.
Bennett and Woodruff seemingly addressed their exits in separate social media posts.
Woodruff took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to thank Portnoy and Barstool CEO, Erika Ayers Badan.
“Will be forever grateful for all the opportunities @barstoolsports, @stoolpresidente & @erika_ gave me over these past two years!” she wrote. “Thank you for everything.”

The “Mean Girls” podcast was dropped by Barstool Sports about a week after Bennett and Woodruff joked in a since-deleted tweet that they still had jobs at the company following the layoffs.
“When you show up to work Monday not fired even though all the Stoolies wish you were,” the pair wrote over a video that showed them walking into the Barstool offices.
Former Barstool producer Michael Angelo responded to the post on X, writing: “Showing up to your Apple podcast statistics page to see that still nobody listens to anything either of you say.”
Angelo then shared a screengrab of the video.
Woodruff took responsibility for the post in a reply to Angelo on X.
“Yeah bc it was rude to our recently let go co workers,” she wrote. “I posted it. I’ll take responsibility.
“I’m sorry & it was insensitive. It was a joke bc every stoolie & their mom were in our comments saying they hoped WE were fired. Next time plz say something to me directly if I offend u.”
The Post was first to report that Barstool Sports began laying off nearly 25 percent of its employees last month.
