Duane Brown not happy about Jets’ short week vs. Jaguars

Duane Brown was not complaining from a competitive standpoint, but as a human.
This short week should provide the Jets with a theoretical advantage over the Jaguars. Jacksonville needed overtime to beat the Cowboys on Sunday and now will have to travel to MetLife Stadium to face off with the Jets on Thursday night.
But the fact that any team has to endure such a quick turnaround this late in the season irks Brown.
“I don’t like it. I don’t like it one bit,” the Jets’ left tackle, in his 15th NFL season, said at practice Tuesday. “Especially not Week 16, know what I’m saying? But it is what it is. Everyone’s at a disadvantage. They played an overtime game and they’ve gotta travel here, so you can’t think about it too much. But no, it’s not ideal at all physically.”

The 37-year-old has had to play late-season Thursday night matchups in previous seasons, though not since the schedule expanded to 17 games.
He said for veterans like him, “you dread it” leading up to the Thursday game. Mondays and Tuesdays, which usually are mostly rest and recovery days, become lengthy days when the week is shortened.
“This week, it’s going to be a physical game. Both of us are playing for our life,” Brown said. “Week 16, to have a Thursday night game, your body really feels it.”
The bodies will be in pain, though the Jets — after a tough loss Sunday to the Lions — can spin the brief week as being potentially good for their minds.
“I think the guys are very excited for this opportunity just to get back on the field,” Zach Wilson said. “I know I’m extremely excited just to get back on the field and get after it again.”
Final rosters for the Pro Bowl will be announced Wednesday, which is on C.J. Mosley’s mind “zero percent.”
The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker has bigger goals.
“We’re all trying to get into the playoffs because once we get that ticket, we can really make something shake,” Mosley said. “We believe that.”

CB Brandin Echols (quad) and WR Denzel Mims (concussion) did not practice again and likely will be out Thursday. WR Jeff Smith (knee) also did not practice.
WR Corey Davis (concussion) fully practiced and is “trending in the right direction,” head coach Robert Saleh said. DT Quinnen Williams (calf) was a limited participant.
“For Quinnen, it’s going to go up to kickoff or when we declare actives,” Saleh said. “It feels a lot better than it did last week.”
Limited at practice were offensive linemen Brown (shoulder) and George Fant (knee) and safety Lamarcus Joyner (hip).
