FIRST ALERT TUESDAY; Tricky travel with accumulating snow, especially towards the Coulee Region

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – After a burst of snow this morning in the Chippewa Valley, most of the snow further north has winded down for the day. Intermittent snow showers will still be possible, but the brunt of the impacts further north are behind us. Toward our southern counties, it is still a different story. More prolonged snow is expected near the I-90 corridor and points south. If you have any travel plans down that way into the afternoon, take note that there will still likely be some major travel impacts for the afternoon commute.

Those that are experiencing the greatest impacts are still under winter storm warnings, whereas winter weather advisories will continue for Buffalo, Jackson, and Trempealeau counties through tonight into the early hours of tomorrow. Winds will start to ramp up through the day and may blow some of the snow around, but the wet and heavy nature of the snow will keep most of it from blowing around, which will help visibility issues.

Several inches of additional accumulation are to be expected for our southern and southeastern counties, whereas a dusting is expected on top of what has already fallen toward the Chippewa Valley. Snow showers will begin to wrap up later this afternoon and early evening, giving way to a mainly cloudy sky, though given the prolonged nature of the snow, not to mention the fact that it is a wet and heavy snow, some impacts could potentially be felt into the morning commute tomorrow as well.
