Mark Cuban on Bally Sports: ‘Once the contract’s up, we’ll look at all of our options’

FRISCO — Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Thursday that the NBA team will consider other options once its contract to air games on the Bally Sports Southwest network ends.
But the uncertainty surrounding the bankruptcy of Bally Sports’ operator, Diamond Sports Group, could force the issue sooner. Diamond has to present a plan to reorganize after the bankruptcy, and it’s not clear how that could change the fees it pays or its contracts with the 15 NBA teams and 12 NHL teams whose games air on regional Bally networks.

“We obviously want as many Mavs fans to be able to watch our games,” and so do the Stars, Cuban said. “Nobody wants to limit distribution.”
“If we could, we’d make the streams available for free and make the broadcast available for free right now, but we can’t, we have a contract,” he continued.

On Wednesday, Bally Sports’ Twitter reported more outages during the Mavericks’ game against the Chicago Bulls and the Stars’ against the Calgary Flames, just two nights after outages during their games against the Memphis Grizzlies and Columbus Blue Jackets. The company apologized for the error, which took over an hour to fix.
The issue has now been fixed, we genuinely apologize for the inconvenience. We will keep working tonight to find solutions so this doesn’t happen again. — BallySportsHelp (@ballysportshelp) November 2, 2023
In April, new Phoenix Suns and WNBA Mercury owner Mat Ishbia announced that both teams’ games would move from Bally Sports Arizona to Gray Television and Kiswe. Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith announced a similar plan, shifting this season’s games to local TV as well as a subscription streaming app. However, Utah was not part of the Diamond Sports regional broadcast umbrella.
