Counting the most dangerous sports in the world? Bull riding better come on the first three fingertips, because boy, is it terrifying! Honestly, the courage that the cowboys showcase every time they climb the massive and raging bull is marvelous. Think this is an exaggeration?
Well, it is anything but. Rodeo is still considered one of the most dangerous sports in the world. No amount of protective equipment can save you from the angry stomps of a bull hell-bent on knocking the life out of you. But don’t take our word for it. Cowboys will tell you exactly how soul-shaking the experience is.
Cowboys describe the horrors of bull riding

The official YouTube channel of Professional Bull Riding (PBR) posted a video on November 15, 2019, titled “The Dangers of Professional Bull Riding”, and the name speaks for itself. The video was an anthology of many bull riders describing their encounters. The anecdotes sound like a cautionary tale, but the matter-of-fact way in which bull riders speak, makes one realize that for them, it’s just another day at the job. One rider described the sport as, “This is the most dangerous sport in the world, no question.”
Another rider compared the bulls to cars and said, “Every time you leave the chute, you’re getting on an animal that weighs more than the cab you just took to the event.” Another described the animal in a way that was terrifying and hilarious at the same time, “When you factor in the 2000-pound animal with baseball bats coming out of its head, that raises the stakes.” One aptly described the situation by saying, “Bull riding is not a contact sport, it’s a collision sport.”
Finally, a cowboy summed it up by saying, “Everyone that rides bulls gets injured.” Already scared? But we haven’t even gotten to the best (or the most horrific) part yet. Each of the cowboys then went on to describe the gruesome injuries that they suffered because of the ferocious bulls.

One of them revealed, “I’ve punctured my lungs.” And that wasn’t even the goriest account present in the video. A cowboy literally got torn to pieces. He said, “Ruptured my intestine, had two stomach surgeries. Cut me open all the way down my belly.” There were various stories about broken limbs, torn tendons and ligaments, and reconstructed body parts.

One cowboy revealed, “Broke a rib, foot, both wrists, both ankles.” Another one fractured their eye socket and cheekbone. A cowboy said he had, “No ACL, MCL in the left knee. No MCL in my right knee.” Another bull rider added, “Broke my jaw, got three plates in my jaw.” One of them also got a plate in their collarbone. Another one, “Broke my legs right in half. Broke all my ribs on my right side.”
