Virgin Atlantic Relaunches ‘Twilight Check-In’ At Manchester Airport

Virgin Atlantic has announced the return of its ‘twilight check-in’ service for passengers flying out of Manchester. The convenient option allows travelers to check in the evening before their flight.
Virgin brings back twilight check-in
Having formerly offered early check-ins and bag drops at Manchester and London Gatwick (LGW) before the pandemic, Virgin Atlantic has reinstated the service at Manchester Airport (MAN). The service opens from 16:00 to 20:00 the day before flights, and is available for all flights departing from Manchester.
Twilight check-in services enable passengers to go through the check-in process the day before flying – this lets passengers proceed straight to security control on the day of their flight, with their bags and check-in already complete. This can be particularly handy for morning flights, giving travelers extra time to sleep and avoid the morning queues. It also removes the hassle of lugging around heavy bags on the day of your flight, giving you more time to relax and enjoy airport facilities.

A Virgin Atlantic representative said,
“From 31 May 2023, Twilight Check-In will be available for all flights departing the following day from Manchester, every evening from 4pm to 8pm.”
Virgin Atlantic is based at Manchester’s revamped Terminal 2 facility and currently serves four destinations from MAN – New York (JFK), Atlanta (ATL), Orlando (MCO) and Barbados (BGI).
How it works
Virgin’s twilight check-in is notable for its availability on all flights across the day, rather than just early departures. There are a few things to keep in mind when using the service:
All passengers traveling must be present to complete the check-in process
You must have your tickets, passport and baggage with you
Not available if you are dropping additional baggage the next day
Open from 16:00 to 20:00 the day before your flight
Once you have completed the check-in process, you won’t need to come back to the check-in area on the day of your flight. The exception is for travelers with buggies or strollers that need tags, or those who require special assistance – in this case, you will need to head back to the check-in desk on the day of departure.

How common is twilight check-in?
Twilight check-in services are relatively uncommon despite their usefulness – if the option is available, it will usually be limited to morning flights departing the next day. Most carriers don’t offer day-before check-ins, but be sure to inquire with your airline if you require this service.

In the UK, low-cost carrier Jet2 offers twilight check-in at Manchester Airport for flights departing before midday the next day, while British Airways offers a similar option on select flights out of London Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick.
