Warriors-Kings pick
After their thrilling seven-game first round playoff series last year, the Sacramento Kings clash with the Golden State Warriors once again in the play-in bracket.
The Warriors are favored by 2.5 points tonight in Sacramento. If this were a best-of-seven series, then Golden State would likely win given the Kings recent injuries, but I think Sacramento can muster up a strong performance in front of its home crowd.
These teams were very evenly matched in the regular season. Both teams won two of their four matchups, with three of the games being decided by exactly one point.
Sacramento did not finish the season strong, losing four of their last 10 games, but Golden State ended the regular season on an odd note as well. After going 8-1 in a nine-game stretch, the Warriors’ final three games of the regular season were closer-than-expected wins over the tanking Trail Blazers and Jazz, and a home loss to the Pelicans. Those games against Portland and Utah were in doubt in the fourth quarter, so we’ll see if Golden State can ramp things up tonight.
The Warriors and Kings are also very similar from an analytics standpoint, as they are both above average in offensive efficiency and mid-tier in defensive efficiency. Expect big games from Steph Curry and De’Aaron Fox tonight, because both guards averaged over 30 points per game in the season series.
