Fall is upon us, but our adventure-seeking readers have thoroughly enjoyed these last months of travel. They’ve explored Uganda’s Impenetrable Forest, trekked through Portugal and discovered England’s maritime past in Portsmouth. Along they way, they’ve shared their adventures — and some very practical travel tips too.
Now, two Walnut Creek readers are reporting back on their Galapagos adventures.

GALAPAGOS ISLANDS: In July, Walnut Creek residents Trudie and Michael Bradford visited Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands with Silversea Origin, a 100-passenger ship, on a weeklong cruise. “A once in a lifetime trip!” Trudie says. “The ship sailed to six islands on the western side and was extremely comfortable. Ten knowledgeable naturalist guides aboard engaged in all the daily activities offered: morning and afternoon nature hikes, kayaking, snorkeling. The ship provided all the equipment (including) very nice shorty wetsuits, but if you’d like full arm and leg coverage, bring your own.
“We spotted and photographed many animals and birds endemic to the islands, including the Blue-Footed Booby, which was one of the highlights, besides snorkeling with friendly penguins and playful sea lions. Also, a visit to the Tortoise Reserve and the Charles Darwin Research Station were included.”
TRAVEL TIPS: “There are land/hotel tours available, but we believe one sees much more by cruising,” Trudie says. “There are several cruise lines that sail around the islands. Beware, embarkation and debarkation from any ship is only via Zodiac, which the crew had full control of and did an excellent job. Related Articles Travel | Wish You Were Here: A Kenya safari
