White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has been slammed by critics after getting testy with a reporter who pressed her about whether transgender females should be allowed to play girls’ sports.
EWTN White House correspondent Owen Jensen set off Jean-Pierre by asking what she would tell parents who might be “worried about their daughter’s safety” if they have to compete against “a person born male.“
“What you’re alluding to is basically saying that transgender kids are dangerous,” Jean-Pierre shot back. “You’re laying a broad kind of … example or explanation of what could potentially [be] happening.”
“That is a dangerous thing to say that essentially, transgender kids … are dangerous. And so that’s something that I have to call out.”
WTN’s Owen Jensen: “What would [Biden] say to parents…who are worried that their daughter may have to compete against a male…and worried about their daughters’ safety?” Karine Jean-Pierre: “So…what you’re alluding to is…a dangerous thing to say…That is irresponsible.”
Jensen denied Jean-Pierre’s interpretation of his question, but the press secretary was unconvinced and referred him to the Education Department for his question.
Earlier in the exchange, Jensen asked whether the White House had any misgivings about biological females competing against transgender athletes, citing a recent open letter signed by 72 female athletes opposing a potential rule change to Title IX.
Under the proposal, schools that receive federal funding would not be allowed to impose blanket bans on transgender athletes playing sports on teams that correspond to their gender identity. However, the rule would permit schools to impose eligibility rules that fit “important educational objectives” — such as competitive fairness and reduction of injury risk.

“This is a complicated issue,” Jean-Pierre replied. “I also want to make clear that this is a proposal and members of public have the ability to provide comment as part of the rulemaking process.”
Jean-Pierre’s tense exchange with Jensen drew backlash from conservatives and supporters of women’s sports.
“When they say ‘inclusion’, just know they really mean ‘exclusion’. The message this sends to ALL women is that our safety doesn’t matter. Nor does our privacy, our fairness, our equal opportunities, or our dignity. The misogyny is slapping us across the face. #SaveWomensSports,” former NCAA swimmer and Independent Women’s Voice adviser Riley Gaines tweeted.
“These people are beyond sick. To twist a question about girls in sports to saying that ‘trans kids’ are dangerous,” tweeted Daniel Brewer.
“A ninety pound girl getting bodied by a 200 lb ‘girl’ is what’s dangerous,” libertarian influencer Josie Glabach tweeted.
“The liberal playbook is to turn aggressors into victims and victims into aggressors,” added Patrice Lee Onwuka, economic policy director at the Independent Women’s Forum.
In the same briefing, Jean-Pierre — the first openly gay person to serve as press secretary — reiterated the White House’s condemnation of trans model Rose Montoya, who was banned from future events after going topless during the administration’s Pride celebration over the weekend.
“The behavior was simply unacceptable. We’ve been very clear about that. It was unfair to the hundreds of attendees who were there to celebrate their families,” she said. “It really does not reflect the event that we hosted to celebrate the LGBTQ+ families — again, hundreds of families who were here to celebrate their community and who were here in attendance.”
