Nearly a month after reports that Travis Kelce was in talks to host a reboot of the game show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?,” Amazon Prime Video has confirmed the rumors are true.
“Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” — in which contestants will compete for a $100,000 prize by answering elementary school-level questions — will be commandeered by the three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end.
The streaming platform said Tuesday it had ordered a 20-episode season, though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
“I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one,” Kelce said in Tuesday’s announcement. “The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen will definitely be entertaining.”
For the spinoff, players will be challenged to answer 11 questions from a wide range of subjects, assisted by a “classroom” of celebrities from film, TV and sports.
On the final question, worth $100,000, the contestant will select one celebrity with whom to discuss the answer before locking in their final choice.
“I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up,” Kelce added.
The original series, hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, became a record-breaking hit when it premiered on Fox in 2007. According to Amazon, it has remained the No. 1 game show premiere in broadcast TV history, raking it 27 million viewers for its inaugural episode.
A reboot of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” hosted by John Cena, aired on Nickelodeon in 2019.
