Leeds manager search continues with latest candidate flying away, as Sky Sports man shares what he’s heard from Elland Road

Leeds United will not be appointing Alfred Schreuder as their next manager despite him attending their defeat to Man Utd at the weekend, reports are revealing.
Schreuder watched Leeds lose to Man Utd at Elland Road on Sunday, having become a contender to replace Jesse Marsch as manager. It would have marked a quick return to coaching for the Dutchman, who was sacked by Ajax recently.
Leeds have already seen managerial targets like Andoni Iraola, Carlos Corberan and Arne Slot slip away from their grasp. Therefore, their attention turned to Schreuder – who was Erik ten Hag’s successor at Ajax – as an alternative.
But although he was a serious contender for the job 24 hours ago, Schreuder will not be taking over at Leeds, it is now emerging.
According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay, as well as Sky Sports and the BBC, Leeds have ended their interest in the 50-year-old.
The BBC notes that Schreuder has already flown back to the Netherlands despite holding talks with Leeds officials and visiting their training ground.
Hence, Leeds now need to look elsewhere once again. Sky‘s Tim Thornton has been informed that they will take their time if it means getting the right person for the job.
Thornton said: “Alfred Schreuder had been linked to the role and we know he was at Elland Road for the game against Manchester United on Sunday. But Leeds have been speaking to lots of different candidates, so it was never a case of him being the number one target.
“Leeds won’t panic. They had targets that they haven’t been able to land because those targets have been in positions elsewhere. They were looking to get proven coaches in with track records of success, but it was difficult to bring them in mid-season.
“The message from Elland Road is they are keen to bring in the right manager and not the wrong manager quickly. That’s why they will take all the time they need to get the right candidate in.”
Nuno could be next Leeds manager instead
One alternative suggestion who seems to be creeping up the list of contenders for the Leeds vacancy is Nuno Espirito Santo.
Reports over the weekend, from The Athletic, claimed the former Wolves and Tottenham boss would be open to a return to the Premier League. Although currently in charge of Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Professional League, Nuno has been discussed as an option by Leeds.
But as Thornton has shared, Leeds are in no hurry if they have any doubts about their candidates to take over.
For now, Michael Skubala, Chris Armas and Paco Gallardo remain in caretaker charge. Leeds’ next fixture will be against Everton on Saturday, in a game that could have a significant impact on the battle against relegation to the Championship.
If Leeds cannot find a permanent manager to oversee their fight for Premier League survival, they could even make an interim appointment until the end of the season, according to the Yorkshire Post.
It may be more likely for their preferred candidates to be available in the summer. But they will be a more attractive club to join if they remain in the Premier League. Thus, they even have to carefully judge their next short-term move if that is what it comes to.
