BIG RAPIDS – Jackie Cole just finished off her junior season as the busiest area athlete in high school sports.
Now she’s ready to take a few weeks off before starting her senior season as the busiest area athlete in high school sports.
Cole recently ended her junior soccer season. She was also in basketball, volleyball, cross country, track, soccer and bowling for six sports overall.
She could be called a double three-sport athlete. Cross country and volleyball are in the fall, basket ball and bowling in the winter and track and soccer in the spring.
In her list of favorites, ”soccer is either tied for first or second,” Cole said. “Lately it’s first with basket ball. In soccer, I really love the environment, the team and the coach and just being able to move the ball really well. It’s a really big team sport.”
For this year team “we had a lot of young kids,” she said. “We had around six seniors graduate last year and that definitely put a dent in our season. But we came back from that.
“It’s definitely a matter of learning the tactics and technical skills so we can distribute as a team.“
A win over Houghton Lake during the regular season and over Benzie Central in the districts were some major highlights.
“The key to winning is definitely passing,” Cole said. “if you can’t pass around them, you can’t win games.”
Cole had some key goals for the Cougars.
“It’s always great to get a goal,” she said.
When the summer ends, “I definitely stay in shape by running and working out so I can back next season and play better.”
