Everyone deserves some self-care after a breakup. And ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, took this idea to the next level. The journalist once made some serious expenses after her much-publicized split from Schwarzenegger. While the couple has remained amicable after their separation, that didn’t stop Shriver from hopping on a cruise ride with her kids.

In 2013, Maria Shriver was aboard the Domani, a luxurious ship with all the possible amenities one would need to have a good time. While the cruise vacation was straight out of dreams, it burned a giant hole in her pocket. Wondering how much it cost her to rent it out? Read on to find out!

When Schwarzenegger and Shriver separated in 2011, it caused a lot of public uproar. After all, the former Governor’s extra-marital affair with his housekeeper had come into light. While they parted ways, they still successfully co-parented their children and remained on good terms. Two years later, Shriver made news for one of the most luxurious retreats she had organized for herself and her kids. The only person missing was her ex-husband.

Shriver and her children rented out the Domani – a luxury cruise with a full-fledged entertainment system, a lounge, a jacuzzi, and a cocktail bar. The 148 ft long vessel could easily fit up to 10 guests and ensure world-class amenities for all. But all good things come at a cost. During peak season, the Domani could cost up to a whopping $250,000 for a week!

Shriver remembers her family’s disregard for vacations
Unlike her splurge in 2013, Maria Shriver never grew up with the privilege of having a retreat. Her parents – Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy – never believed in the concept of relaxing. In an interview with Hoda Kotb in 2018, she revealed the stringent thoughts that her mother Eunice would preach about – There was no room for breaks!

The journalist recalled how she told her mother that she would like a break since she had worked hard for a while. However, her mother instantly refused. Coming from a family where the only trips encouraged were educational ones, Maria Shriver letting loose just to relax, proved to be a good change. And while she may not have had a fancy retreat in her childhood, she made up for it after her split.
