Living in Minnesota is never dull. There is always something to do, whether it’s an outdoor or indoor activity chances are if you are looking to do something, if you take a minute or two chances are you’ll find something. Minnesota also is one of those states where we do things that a majority of other states just don’t do, one of those things is creating ‘ice roads’ on some of our many lakes.
Ice fishing is big business out here in Greater Minnesota, and how you keep people coming and going from your bait shop or resort back to their icehouse is by making it easy. One of the ways resorts and bait shops/rental companies do this is my making sure it’s easy to get out to and back from your ice house by plowing and maintain ‘ice roads’ during ice fishing season.

I recently caught a video from a resort on Upper Red Lake making an ice road, and all I got to say is wow!
West Wind Resort on Upper Red shared the road video, and that guy was flying! The snow was flying off that plow blade, and all it was leaving behind was the lake ice, making it easier for people to get around on the massive lake in Northern Minnesota.
Red Door Resorts on Lake Mille Lacs says it best on their website:
Did you know that all winter long, Minnesota gains miles of road that can only be driven during the winter months? It may sound odd and most are probably wondering how a state can have seasonal roads, but when Lake Mille Lacs freezes over, ice roads become a main form of transit for anglers.

If you are heading out on the lakes this weekend, clean up when you’re done, and stop and talk to the folks at the resort before you go out to get the latest ice conditions. Most importantly remember there is no such things as safe ice!
