Valley Sports Academy hosts golf outing fundraiser

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Valley Sports Academy hosts a golf scramble fundraiser with proceeds going to the Village Project in support of athletic opportunities for underprivileged children.
On a sunny July afternoon, dozens of golfers descended upon Lake Wissota for a chance to chase birdies and win prizes in the name of supporting youth athletes.
“All proceeds are going to the Village Project,” said VSA owner Brian Seubert. “The Village Project is a 501C3 nonprofit that supports extracurricular activities for all kids across the country.”
Allowing as many kids to play as possible is vital for youth sporting success, a sentiment emphasized by former Menomonie standouts Trey and Tanner Vavra.
“Our goal is to keep everyone playing. No cuts, nothing like that from our end,” said Trey Vavra. “We’re really trying to grow the number of people playing, and then maybe one of them hits it big, and can go play professionally.”
“We’ve seen, growing up here, just the number of great athletes that can come out of this area when an opportunity is created, and to help create more opportunities for more kids to go get seen and chase their dreams? It’s something special,” said Tanner Vavra.
Joining the Vavra’s as celebrity guests is former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.
“Being in professional baseball, what it allows you to do, it allows you to help kids,” Gardenhire said. “Conversations with them, teaching a little baseball to them, and talking about how we did it, and how we got here. It’s very important, and that’s what it’s all about.”
With homes of event growth in the coming years, the goal for Seubert remains the same: Help athletes realize their potential within the Chippewa Valley.
“Our main goal since day one, since we opened the doors with Valley Sports Academy, has been to allow those high-level athletes to stay home, and it’s really showing already at our high school level, and the kids that are already committing to the college level.”
