Tom Cruise supposedly has a new love interest, but she sounds like she’d be a risky proposition for his “Mission: Impossible” alter ego, according to reports.
Elsina Khayrova is a 36-year-old Russian socialite and former model whose father is an ally of Vladimir Putin and whose ex-husband is a U.K-based Russian oligarch on a Kremlin “wanted list,” according to news reports. Khayrova’s recent divorce from her diamond merchant husband made her infamous when a London judge scolded her for “dishonesty” because she hid assets, including her $1.2 million collection of handbags.
The Daily Mail reported that the thrice-married, 61-year-old Cruise was seen “canoodling” with Khayrova at a posh party in London over the weekend.
“They were inseparable — clearly a couple,” one guest at the almost entirely Russian event told the Daily Mail. “He seemed to be besotted with her.”
The pair showed up to the soirée together around 9 p.m. and “spent most (of) the night dancing” with each other, the Daily Mail said. Though it’s unknown what the “Top Gun” star wore to the party, there were details aplenty about Khayrova’s outfit. Page Six said the brunette arrived in a black strapless dress “with ruffles along the sweetheart-shaped neckline and a giant bejeweled bow on the bodice.” She also wore black hose and matching pumps.
The Daily Mai said she and Cruise left the party together in the early hours of Sunday. Cruise’s reps didn’t not immediately respond to media requests for comment, Page Six said.
Khayrova was in the headlines in August when a judge said she led the court on a “merry dance” in her attempt to hide assets in her acrimonious divorce from Dmitry Tsvetkov, a multimillionaire diamond merchant, The Telegraph reported. Khayrova’s father, incidentally, is Rinat Khayrov, a former MP in Russia’s ruling party and one of Putin’s leading political supporters, The Times reported.
Khayrova and Tsvetkov split in 2020 after more than a decade of marriage and have been battling over dividing their millions of dollars in assets, The Telegraph said. The couple’s assets include a $27 million estate in the English countryside, homes in London worth around $22 million and properties in Dubai and Cypress, along with millions of dollars worth of cars, jewelry and art.
Khayrova was blasted for failing to list her collection of 150 handbags in her list of assets. In a damning assessment of her actions, a High Court judge said the case had been “infected by (Khayrova’s) dishonesty from start to finish,” The Telegraph reported. High Court Judge Sir Robert Peel accused Khayrova of “sustained duplicity” and of leading the court “on a merry dance about handbags” through her lies.
After Khayrova filed for divorce, Tsvetkov, her beleaguered ex, complained that his marriage had come under pressure after the Kremlin placed him on a “wanted list” for unknown offenses, The Telegraph reported. He said he was the victim of intimidation and death threats in a dispute over the ownership of a coal mine in Siberia.
With all these reports about hidden handbags, duplicity and Kremlin wanted lists, it sounds like Cruise has his hands full — if he is in fact getting involved with Khayrova.
Of course, it’s hard to know with Cruise. He has become notoriously secretive about his personal life. He hasn’t been publicly attached to any woman since 2012, after his high-profile divorce from third wife Katie Holmes.

But she finally shut down those rumors over the summer when she told The Independent that she views Cruise and “Mission: Impossible” director Christopher McQuarrie as “sort of two uncles” rather than love interests, Page Six reported. She also said that the “weird (romance) rumors” involving her co-workers felt “dirty” and “grubby.”
Two months prior, Page Six reported that Cruise was “extremely interested in pursuing” Colombian pop star Shakira after they were seen hanging out together at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami. But despite “the chemistry” they supposedly had, Shakira was flattered by Cruise’s interest but not interested in dating him, a source told Us Weekly.
Earlier in his career, Cruise openly dated and married a string of well-known Hollywood actors, including his “Risky Business” co-star Rebecca De Mornay, first wife Mimi Rogers, second wife Nicole Kidman and his “Vanilla Sky” co-star Penelope Cruz.
But it’s become widely accepted in Hollywood that Cruise over-exposed his private life and started to do damage to his tightly controlled career and public image when he jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch in 2005 to proclaim his love for Holmes.
At the same time, Cruise’s adherence to the controversial Church of Scientology also became a topic of intrigue in the 2000s, with news reports portraying him as one of the most powerful people in the organization. Multiple reports also have said that Scientology was a factor in Cruise and Holmes’ marriage and in Holmes’ decision to file for divorce in 2012, because she was concerned about the church having an outsized influence over how they raised their daughter, Suri.
