Kevin Sherrington’s A La Carte
— Tuned in briefly to the NBA All-Star Game – a 211-186 exhibition of sorts – and figured if the players didn’t care, why should I? Seen more defense at a junior high dance. If Adam Silver, the commissioner, wants to put some teeth in the world’s longest layup line, maybe he ought to let Micah Parsons play. The Cowboys’ edge rusher collected 37 points and 16 rebounds in the celebrity game, earning MVP honors. Put Parsons in the NBA game, Adam, and tell him the guy with the ball is a quarterback. Might ratchet up the intensity level.

— Speaking of Parsons, he remains a fan of Dan Quinn but didn’t exactly object to the notion that Mike Zimmer could bring some accountability to the defense. Nice to know. Here’s hoping his teammates adopt the same take.

— Instead of another mind-numbing All-Star Game, maybe the commissioner ought to consider a bracket of H-O-R-S-E. Give me Luka Doncic. Unlike dunk winner Mac McClung, who plucked a ball off Shaq’s head and flushed in one gravity-defying motion, Luka’s air show won’t make anyone dizzy. But did you catch the shot he bounced in? Luka might be the most skilled basketball player without any hops since George Mikan.

— Ripping your own players publicly for a lack of athleticism doesn’t seem like a good idea – more like an indictment of your recruiting ability – but if Rick Pitino persists, the St. John’s coach ought to at least show a sense of humor. Like Abe Lemons, who famously told a player at halftime, “You scored one more point than a dead man.”

— Could Caitlin Clark, all-time leading scorer in college women’s basketball, make it in the NBA? Might be the woman best-suited to do so. No, she won’t guard anybody, but neither does Trae Young. Like Young, leave Clark open at your own peril.
