Jennifer Hudson’s NBA All-Star halftime show is being savaged online.
The 42-year-old singer performed at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday. Accompanied by a marching band, the Grammy winner belted out her hits “Remission,” “Spotlight” and “I Got This” during the five-minute set.
Although the crowd burst into applause as Hudson walked off stage, the internet was not so generous.

“Who booked Jennifer Hudson,” asked @dot5_ on X, formerly Twitter.
“All the bomb artists and the @NBA booked Jennifer Hudson to yell a damn ballad for half time?” said Alah.
“This is not a R&B Soul cruise or the church picnic,” wrote @nevaRWilliams.
“She wasn’t quite right for the venue,” agreed @YallSomeTricks7. “Needed something upbeat/party-ish.”
“Worst halftime ever,” said @CoinsMoe, while Metro called the performance a “snooze fest.”
Newsweek has reached out to Jennifer Hudson for comment via email.
However, many fans defended the American Idol finalist, with @LilBlasqui writing: “Jennifer Hudson just took Indiana to Church.”
“She did a really good job,” agreed @FlairSavant.
“She continues to amaze,” said m’baku.
“Y’all need to leave Jennifer Hudson alone. You whippersnappers never show the OGs love,” wrote @Goldenapolis.
“No Jennifer Hudson slander will be tolerated!” said LaShaye. “Yall seriously mad at an artist who actually can SING! Grow up.”
Despite the negative reaction to her halftime performance online, Hudson is one of only 17 performers to earn the coveted EGOT status—winning an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award.
The actress won the Best Supporting Actress nod at the Academy Awards in 2007 for her portrayal of singer Effie White in Dream Girls, before winning the Grammy for Best R&B Performance in 2009.
She landed a Daytime Emmy in 2021 after executive producing the short interactive fairy tale Baba Yaga, created for virtual-reality gaming headset Oculus Quest.
This was followed by a Tony award in 2022, also for her work as a producer, with Hudson adapting the novel A Strange Loop by Douglas Hofstadter for Broadway.
She also won the Entertainer of the Year and Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture gongs at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards, both for her performance as Aretha Franklin in the biopic Respect.
Alongside performing during Sunday’s halftime show, Hudson took part in the 2024 Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday.
She played for ESPN host Stephen A. Smith’s team beside former Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean, Olympian Gianmarco Tamberi and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr.
