Jaguar recalls electric SUVs in U.S. due to fire risk

Tata Motors (TTM)-owned Jaguar is recalling more than 6K I-Pace electric sports utility vehicles in the U.S. due to the risk of the high-voltage battery overheating and catching fire.
The recall action covers I-Pace vehicles from the 2019 to 2024 model years. The notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cited 8 battery-related fires in the U.S. for the luxury automaker’s all-electric SUV model.
Documents in the Jaguar recall indicate the battery energy control module software will be updated by a dealer or online. In addition, dealers will replace battery modules if needed.
The batteries for the I-Pace vehicle batteries were made by LG Energy Solution, which is under investigation by the NHTSA after five automakers issued recalls due to possible defects that could cause fires or stalling. The NHTSA first opened the probe in April of 2022 covering more than 138K vehicles with the South Korean company’s lithium-ion batteries.
Shares of Tata Motors (TTM) rose 1.20% in trading in India on Wednesday.
