Harris to embark on a seven-state campaign blitz with her VP pick

Summary China Southern Airlines is increasing capacity to Christchurch by 75% for the 2024/2025 summer peak season.
The demand for flights between China and New Zealand has led to extra services being added, particularly during Lunar New Year.
The partnership between China Southern and Christchurch Airport aims to boost tourism, education, and cargo services in the region, benefiting both sides.
There has been a flurry of winter schedule announcements from the Northern Hemisphere, with carriers in North America, Asia and Europe all releasing details of their 2024/2025 schedules. Similarly, airlines and airports south of the equator are putting together their 2024/2025 summer schedules, with New Zealand’s Christchurch International Airport among them.
China Southern is going deeper
Christchurch International Airport (CHC) announced the return of China Southern Airlines for the 2024/2025 summer season, offering around 75% more seats than during the same period last year. Starting at the end of October, Aisa’s largest airline will resume its nonstop service from Guangzhou to Christchurch, with an expanded presence offering extra seats for the Chinese New Year period.

It is no surprise that China Southern Airlines (China Southern) is returning to Christchurch, as it has been a successful partnership for both the airline and the airport since it commenced in 2016. Close to 400,000 passengers have utilized the service between New Zealand and China since it launched, with the rising demand leading to the expanded flights this summer.

The high demand has resulted in China Southern adding two extra weekly flights for the Lunar New Year period, with the service operating daily between December 17, 2024, and February 12, 2025. The additional services will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, adding to the five times weekly flights last year.
This will add more than 75% more seats than during the 2023/2024 summer season and boost opportunities for travelers to celebrate the Lunar New Year in New Zealand or China. It also opens more connection opportunities for travelers from China Southern’s extensive network, which covers more than 220 destinations across 40 countries.
A welcome return for CHC
Christchurch Airport General Manager of Aeronautical Development Gordon Bevan said the airport is delighted to welcome back China Southern and that the extra flights create many more opportunities for global travelers who want to experience New Zealand’s awesome tourism offerings.
