Published 11/02/2022, 9:00 AM EDT
Ross Chastain may have created history with his big brain moment at Martinsville last weekend when he decided to ride the outside wall to overtake five or so cars and make it into the championship four. The motorsport world soon exploded with tweets from famous drivers across sports and soon the memes followed. Recently, former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick was seen unable to hold back her laughter after she saw a Ross Chastain and Tom Cruise crossover.

Danica Patrick reshared a Tweet where we see a video containing a scene from a Tom Cruise NASCAR movie. The first half is the crew chief telling Cruise to run on the outside. But Cruise is skeptical of such a move and questions, “you told me nobody goes to the outside on turn 4.” His crew chief then tells him, if he goes to the outside he can “hold.”

Right after we see a cut back to reality, where Ross Chastain pulls off his one-in-a-million move by going full throttle hugging the outside wall, and taking the win. Meanwhile, we can hear background sounds of a car crashing or possibly scratching the sides of a wall.
Sharing this tweet, Patrick added the laughing and tearing up emoji to reflect how hilarious she found this crossover to be.
What did Ross Chastain exactly do that shook the internet?

On the final lap of the race, Chastain hugged the wall and went on full gas overtaking a bunch of cars and finally getting ahead of a poker-faced Denny Hamlin. Just with that move, he made himself sealed in the final championship four race at Phoenix.

A move like this had never been tried before, mostly since it usually severely damaged the car, but Chastain’s last-minute heroics not only saved his day but shoved him into an overnight sensation worldwide.
