Jamie Carragher along with Roy Keane were on Monday Night Football this week, with them doing their top threes for things such as films, footballing GOATs and sporting GOATs.
They made some bold claims in their predictions, with Carragher’s top three sporting greats raising some eyebrows in the studio.
It’s always fascinating to see these segments on the show, with the Liverpool legend not disappointing with his three, sparking plenty of debate!
Jamie Carragher’s sporting greats
He let us know the criteria for the people he’s picked, with it not just being down to sporting achievements in his opinion, the watchability of the athletes is important and their entertainement factor.
Opening up his three, he said: “I chose people who I’ve watched. I didn’t want to you know, some people always think of Muhammad Ali in that one, but I just wanted people who have taken my breath away watching them.”
That’s a sensible route to go down, it’s incredibly hard to comment on those sporting legends that you may not have watched or been around for during their peaks, with just replays and stories to go off not the best way to form your list.

Jamie Carragher picks Usain Bolt
Carragher starts his list off with the iconic Olympian, backing up his selection by saying: “Usain Bolt, just watching him in sort of the 100 metres and 200 metres how far ahead he was of everybody at the time, so that’s Usain Bolt.”
It’s hard to argue with the sprinter being high up on a list like this, especially when you consider how easy he made his sport look, so much so he slowed down in races and still got the win.

Jamie Carragher picks Floyd Mayweather
When throwing Floyd Mayweather into his top three, Carragher claimed: “I have picked sports I like so had to pick one for boxing, and I just thought Floyd Mayweather, I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea the way he acts outside the ring, but in terms of just never being beaten, every fight he’s had, he’s beaten everybody.”
Again, retiring with a perfect 50-0 record, it’s hard to argue against Mayweather’s inclusion, with him dominating the boxing world and being responsible for some of the biggest fights of the last decade or two.

Jamie Carragher picks Ronnie O’Sullivan
Finishing off his list, Carra went for snooker sensation, Ronnie O’Sullivan, claiming: “The last one I went for Ronnie O’Sullivan, the reason being I keep going back to people who take my breath away, it’s not just the Ronnie O’Sullivan’s the best snooker player of all time, he can play both hands, I know people say football both feet but playing snooker with your left hand and getting a 147 in five minutes you know things that you just go, wow, no one else is ever going to do that.”
O’Sullivan is one of the biggest names in snooker, with his name definitely in any GOAT conversation, but his ability to entertain like he does means he’s a solid choice for a list like this, especially when you consider his records and ability to seamlessly switch from right handed to left handed.
