Avatar 5’s Earth Return Will Complete 2 Major Character Arcs

Avatar 5 is gearing up to tell an Earth story bigger than ever before, and this will complete two major character arcs in a pretty interesting way. Details on the future of the Avatar franchise are still being held tightly under wraps, with hints of the story of the next three Avatar films remaining pretty vague. However, one big detail is known about the journey that the Sully family will go on in Avatar 5, signaling that the final Avatar film will wrap up some main character arcs in an incredibly interesting way.

Avatar: The Way of Water brought the world of Pandora back to the big screen for the first time since 2009’s Avatar, but it’s far from the last time the franchise will be explored. The second entry in the Avatar series introduced all kinds of new characters and storylines, setting up a consistent stream of Avatar sequels. Avatar 3, Avatar 4, and Avatar 5 are all set to release by 2028, completing a five-film franchise arc. While this is exciting, there isn’t a clear picture as to where the story of Avatar is going. However, what is known about Avatar 5 proves that it will be bigger than ever.
The Sully Family Will Travel To Earth In Avatar 5
While the movie is still a long way away, it is known that the Sully family will finally travel to Earth in Avatar 5. Producer Jon Landau confirmed this while on a press tour for Avatar: The Way of Water, dropping this huge detail about the film years ahead of its release. Although the conditions surrounding the Na’vi’s journey to Earth aren’t known, this storyline is sure to be bigger than anything seen before. After several movies of the humans attempting to kill the Na’vi and mine their planet of resources, it will be exciting to see how the Na’vi react to traveling to the home world of the humans.
Kiri Can Learn More About Dr. Grace On Earth
One of the two major characters that will have their character arc completed by Avatar 5’s Earth story is Kiri. Kiri was first introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water, with the young Na’vi being the adopted daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri. As it turns out, Kiri is actually the biological daughter of Dr. Grace, Sigourney Weaver’s character from the original Avatar. Sadly, Dr. Grace died well before Kiri’s birth, making the conditions around her birth quite mysterious. Kiri has become one of the main characters of the Avatar franchise, with her presumably remaining part of the main cast through Avatar 5.

One of Kiri’s biggest storylines in Avatar: The Way of Water involves her connection with her deceased mother. Kiri wants nothing more than to have known Dr. Grace, with her obsessing over her mother’s records and video logs. Having Kiri travel to Earth creates an interesting opportunity to complete her character arc, as she will see the home of her mother. This would allow Kiri to learn a lot more about Dr. Grace, possibly even meeting her family. On top of that, Kiri having some human traits also opens an interesting opportunity for Avatar 5’s story, with it possibly exploring how she gets along with humans.
Avatar 5’s Earth Return Takes Colonel Quaritch Home
While Kiri’s Earth story is the most interesting part of Avatar 5’s new direction, the film also opens a new opportunity for another character: Colonel Quaritch. Quaritch has been the villain of the first two Avatar movies, with him working for the RDA. Although Jake Sully and Neytiri killed Quaritch in the original film, Avatar: The Way of Water reveals that his memory was backed up before his death, with it being implanted into an avatar body. Although he is still evil, Avatar: The Way of Water attempts to make Quaritch a bit more sympathetic, and Avatar 5 could continue this in a big way.
Quaritch is a human at heart, but returning to Earth in the body of a Na’vi opens the possibility for Quaritch to change his ways. The humans that Avatar has presented so far really don’t like Na’vi, and Quaritch could experience some of this prejudice back on Earth. While he will be home, the character could discover that he no longer fits in on Earth. Because of this, Avatar 5 has the interesting opportunity to redeem Colonel Quaritch, allowing for the franchise to end on a more hopeful note.
