Disney The Tale of Moana

Disney Parks Blog shared new details about “Disney The Tale of Moana,” a new stage show that will debut at the Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship in December 2024.
Disney The Tale of Moana
“Disney The Tale of Moana” will use puppets for characters like Te Kā, who will transform into Te Fiti at the climax of the show. Disney Live Entertainment creative director of puppetry and articulation, Jeff Conover, teamed up with master puppet designer Michael Curry. Curry is known for creating the puppets of “The Lion King” on Broadway.
“Warrior Face,” a song cut from the final film but included as a demo on the deluxe soundtrack, will be performed by Moana and Maui in “Disney The Tale of Moana.” During the song, Maui teaches Moana to face her fears before entering the Realm of Monsters. “You’re Welcome,” “We Know The Way,” and “How Far I’ll Go” are also confirmed for the stage show.
“Disney The Tale of Moana” will begin in modern-day Motonui, the fictional island home of Moana. The spirit of Gramma Tala will narrate the story of Moana. The frame narrative is similar to that of “The Little Mermaid” on the Disney Wish, which is seemingly told by a theater troupe.
The opening scene of the ocean choosing Moana will be told “through vibrant dance and songs in a mix of languages including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan and Samoan.”
For the “How Far I’ll Go” number, The Walt Disney Theatre will transform from Motonui into the open ocean with stars overhead and the giant glowing manta ray spirit of Gramma Tala soaring above the audience.
“Moana” will also be represented aboard the Disney Treasure with Heihei Café, while the ship’s other Broadway-style stage shows will be Disney Cruise Line’s pre-existing “Beauty and the Beast” and “Disney Seas the Adventure.”
The Disney Treasure will set out on its maiden voyage on December 21, 2024.
