C.J. Nitkowski has stepped down as the Texas Rangers analyst on Bally Sports Southwest to take a similar position on Atlanta Braves telecasts with Bally Sports and Bally Sports Southeast, the Rangers announced Monday.
Nitkowski, 50, had been an analyst for the Rangers on Bally Sports Southwest since 2017. He was nominated for 11 Lone Star Emmy Awards, won six, and worked as a national analyst for FOX and FS1 from 2014-19.

He pitched for 10 seasons in MLB, including two with the Rangers (2002-03) and one with the Braves (2004). Nitkowski — an Alpharetta, Ga. resident for the last 18 years, whose family still lives there — wrote in a statement on X that travel demands and time away from home had become challenging.

“This has been a dream job that was capped off by watching the team I invested so heavily in and once played for, win their first ever World Series,” Nitkowski’s statement read. “The Texas Rangers are a first class organization throughout.”

Nitkowski will call Braves games alongside Brandon Gaudin for Bally Sports Southeast. His hiring followed former Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur’s decision to reduce his number of games in the broadcast booth. Both Francoeur and MLB Hall of Famer Tom Glavine will work a “similar smaller package of games” in the Braves’ broadcast booth, according to Bally.

“C.J. is a former Braves player and longtime Atlanta area resident,” senior vice president and general manager of Bally Sports South and Bally Sports Southeast Jeff Genther said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome C.J. to our Braves broadcast team.”
The Rangers are in the process of determining how to fill the analyst role left by Nitkowski, and expect to have a decision made in early 2024. The Rangers’ broadcast booth on Bally this season included Dave Raymond (play-by-play), Nitkowski, former MLB catcher Dave Valle (color analyst) and former MLB outfielder David Murphy (color analyst).
“C.J. has done an outstanding job of analyzing the game and educating the audience in his seven years in the Rangers’ TV booth,” Rangers executive vice president of public affairs John Blake said.
