A Colts player is being investigated by the NFL for “pervasive” sports gambling, including allegedly on his own team.
The website Sports Handle reported Monday that the unnamed Colts player placed “hundreds” of bets, and that “at least some” of these wagers were on the Colts.
“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time,” a Colts official told ESPN.
The report indicated that there might have been a proxy placing bets, as a source told Sports Handle that the Colts player “appears to have made the wagers through an account opened by an acquaintance.”
Jenny Reske, the deputy director of the Indiana Gaming Commission, said they are looking into matter.
“I can confirm that we have received information pertaining to this matter and we are following developments,” Reske told Sports Handle.
“The IGC is not the lead agency because it involves violations of league policy. We will, however, continue to review information as it emerges to see if it requires any regulatory action.”

An NFL spokesperson declined to comment on the matter when reached by The Post.
The report said the Colts player is still on the team, and that “although the player is not considered a superstar, an ardent NFL fan has probably heard of him.”
NFL regulations not only prohibit players from betting on the league, but also stipulate they must refrain from gambling while on team grounds.
“NFL Personnel shall not engage in any form of Gambling in any club or League facility or venue (e.g., practice facility, stadium, team hotel, Draft or other League or club event); on any League or club charter or other transport; while traveling on club or League business; or while making an endorsement or promotional appearance,” the league’s rules state.

Former Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley, now with the Jaguars, was indefinitely suspended for betting on NFL games and ended up missing the entire 2022 NFL season; he was reinstated in March.
In April, five NFL players — wideouts Jameson Williams, Stanley Berryhill and Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore of the Lions, plus Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney — were suspended for various lengths of time due to gambling violations.
The Athletic also reported in May that another unnamed Lions player is under investigation.
