It is more than likely that athletes often excel at more than one sport. Many athletes participate in a variety of sports, and many of them have multiple potential careers ahead of them as they grow up. John Daly is one such sportsman who, in his prime, not only excelled at football but also had the opportunity to join the NFL. The golf pro remains an avid NFL fan today and was recently spotted at a playoff event.

In his golf career, Daly has achieved quite a bit. In 1991, he competed in his first major championship. But it wasn’t just a win on the line for Daly; if he didn’t make the cut, his entire career would see a change.

The NFL playoffs are back, and with them, fans get to see celebrity NFL enthusiasts make an appearance. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced the Dallas Cowboys on the field in front of thousands of fans. With a mix of athletes and movie stars, the audience was more than diverse at the match in Tampa.
Among the multitude cheering on each side was the Mission Impossible star, Tom Cruise. Also in the crowd was the WWE legend, Hulk Hogan. And thrilling golf fans with his presence was the two-time major winner John Daly, who was gracing his second favorite sport.
The golf great was seen adhering to his regular diet of beer, with a glass laid out in front of him. The fans were relieved to see Daly doing well and appearing to be back to his old self after only recently recovering from major surgery.
Daly could have had a career in the NFL

Long John is indeed a sensation in the golf world. But things could have ended up quite differently for the five-time PGA Tour winner. Back in 1991, Daly had the option of pursuing his passion for football instead of golf. In high school, Daly was the kicker on the football team for 2 years, and he was certainly quite good.

As per the Los Angeles Times, right before Daly competed in the PGA Championship in 1991, the Indianapolis Colts coach, Ron Meyer, said, “I spent about an hour with John last night and if he doesn’t make the cut at the International, I’m bringing him in.” Daly could have been the backup kicker for the Colts.

However, as the entire gold world knows, Daly went on to win the major that year, paving the way for his stellar golf career that followed. and leaving behind his chance to kick on the pitch. Golf fans certainly thank the stars for that.
