A man gave viewers of his now-viral video insight into the long flight he endured as a child is heard crying and screaming in the background throughout its duration.
Henry Beasley, a musician with the band Balu Brigada, shared the video to the TikTok account @balubrigada where it amassed more than 10 million views and sparked a discussion about children on flights.
“Rate my 29 hour flight to Berlin,” read the text over the video.
Grace Bastidas, the editor-in-chief of Parents, told Newsweek in an email it is stressful to travel with young children, but there are steps parents can take to prepare them for a day of travel.
She suggested packing a change of clothes for the child and the parent in the event that an accident occurs and dressing the child in comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and take off.
“Book the bulkhead seats,” Bastidas added. “Not only are they closer to the front making deplaning easier but the extra legroom will give you the space to get up and rock your baby to sleep.”
According to an article published by the outlet, the back of the plane is also noisier and the seats tend to vibrate more.
To protect a child’s ears from the discomfort of takeoff and landing, parents can give them something to suck on to relieve ear pressure.
“A bottle or pacifier usually works for babies, and bigger kids won’t resist a lollipop,” Bastidas said.
She said having snacks, toys and entertainment options will help throughout the flight.
“When my daughters were toddlers, ticker books always helped me head off a tantrum 30,000 feet up in the air,” Bastidas said.
In the video, Beasley stares into the camera as his eye twitches. In the background, a child is heard screaming throughout the course of several clips that were included in the video.
“The kid’s got some lungs,” read the text displayed over one video clip.
“Great projection,” read another line of text over a different clip.
“Bring it on home now,” one piece of text read over the final clip. “Stellar performance, incredible stamina. 10/10.”
Viewers took to the comments section to share their own frustration upon seeing the video, many of whom floated the idea of child-free flights.
“I would pay EXTRA for kids free flights,” a viewer wrote.
“Honestly there should be kid free flights and kid flights,” another TikTok user commented.
Others said they could not handle being with a crying child on a flight that long.
“At that point I’d start screaming along,” one viewer commented.
Some touched on the parents who bring their young children on long flights.
“As a parent who offers to help these people, 80 percent of them are not prepared,” a viewer commented. “Babies cry, absolutely. I have had to give parents BM, formula, diapers.”
“If I have my hands free, I always offer to help if I see a parent struggling,” a TikTok user wrote. “Don’t think for a moment that the parent is having a fun time.”
Newsweek reached out to Balu Brigada’s representatives for further comment.
Many others have taken their travel observations and experiences to the internet.
A viral video was posted on TikTok showing how an entire plane managed to calm down a crying baby, while another clip showed a child singing on a flight while sitting in business class.
One video showed a man going on a tirade about “racism” while standing in an airport.
