MORLEY – MaKenna Martin recently came off a very productive softball season for Morley Stanwood,
But she can hardly wait to get going this fall for her senior volleyball season, followed by her senior basketball campaign.
For softball, Makenna Martin was a junior first baseman, who batted .368 with a .415 on base percentage and .885 fielding percentage.
“Makenna is an amazing athlete and a leader on and off the field,” Morley Stanwood coach Lauren Aymor said. “She is a three-sport athlete that works hard year round. She is always helping her teammates and always comes through in clutch situations.”
She has played softball for a long time including at first base. Martin said playing first was a mutual decision between herself and the coach.
Martin felt she was effective this season in fielding the variety of throws which come to first base.
She was among the Mohawks’ top hitter and was able to overcome slumps.
Martin also had four home runs during the spring which was a major highlight.
“Sometimes, it’s just how you contact the ball,” she said.
It was a young Morley Stanwood softball team which started out the season slow but was able to catch on during the tail end of this spring.
“I love my teammates and I feel we have good energy,” Martin said late in the season. “Hopefully we can keep that up.”
Martin is a standout in volleyball and basketball and was planning on focusing with those two sports during the summer.
“It’s important to stay active during summer,” she said. “That way you’re not trying to get back in shape and try to get better. This way you can come back already in shape and get better.”
