MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A massive youth soccer tournament will be held in Montgomery County this month, bringing in 120 teams and 2,500 players from 11 states. Officials say it’s one of the largest sporting events in county history.
The 2023 Eastern Presidents Cup, which serves as a qualifier for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, will kick off on June 16. Games will be held at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. “We’re thrilled to welcome the 2023 US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup to Montgomery County,” Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board’s Director of Sports Jon Scheuren said in a statement. “As the largest sporting event to ever come to the county with record-breaking attendance, it helps Valley Forge Sports showcase Montco as the premier youth sports host destination.”
Teams from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia will compete. The games begin at 8 a.m. on June 16 and will run through the early evening. The semifinals and finals will be held on June 19 and June 20. Teams will participate in group play for three days, with one game per day across 16 different fields, in order to qualify for the semifinals.
Several local teams are competing, inculding the girls Iron Valley United Thorns 18 and under team, and the girls North Union United Vipers 16 and under team, both of whom won national championships in 2022. Admission is free and specatators are welcome.
