US-based electric aviation company Surf Air Mobility plans to introduce electric aircraft travel in East Africa with its proprietary powertrain technology once it receives certification. Kenya’s Safarilink and Yellow Wings Air Services have committed to upgrading their Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft through agreements with Surf Air.

Safarilink is Kenya’s premier safari airline connecting various domestic and regional destinations in Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Similarly, Yellow Wings provides charter flights to several domestic and regional cities, serving over 500 airfields in East Africa. Through their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs), both companies aim to introduce more sustainable ways of flying and protect wildlife in the region.

These agreements have marked a significant milestone for Surf Air Mobility as it aims to enhance its global footprint while leading the energy transition to electrified, green aviation. As the exclusive partner for electrifying Textron’s Caravans, the company has set sights on expanding in Africa – a significant market for this particular aircraft. Surf Air Mobility CEO Stan Little commented on the potential in Africa, saying,
