According to a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), The Walt Disney Company will spend $60 billion in the next 10 years to “expand and enhance” Disney Parks around the world, as well as Disney Cruise Line capacity.
This is almost twice what Disney spent in the last 10 years Disney Parks and Cruise Line. This period included the new lands of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland, Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Paris. New attractions in the last 10 years included TRON Lightcycle Run, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Plus, Shanghai Disney Resort opened in 2016.
Disney’s strategies for “turbo-charging” Disney Parks, Experiences & Products are:
Accelerate Storytelling
Expand Footprint
Advance Commercial
Leverage Talent
Reach New Fans
At Destination D23, Disney teased some potential Walt Disney World expansions. They are developing the largest Magic Kingdom expansion ever, which would be “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” Also at Magic Kingdom, they will be opening a new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge and turning Country Bear Jamboree into the “Country Bear Musical Jamboree.”
While the major reimagining of EPCOT is coming to an end with the near completion of World Celebration, Disney is planning to reimagine Test Track with inspiration from World of Motion.
DinoLand U.S.A. is now set to be replaced with a Tropical Americas-themed land featuring “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones.” As part of this update, DINOSAUR would become an Indiana Jones ride. “It’s Tough to be a Bug” is also set to be replaced with a “Zootopia” show.
Across the country, a new multiverse attraction is being developed for Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.
Disneyland Resort is also working on the DisneylandForward initiative with hopes of building another theme park, skyliner, new retail locations, and more hotels.
World of Frozen is about to open at Hong Kong Disneyland, but Disneyland Paris is also building their own Kingdom of Arendelle at Walt Disney Studios Park.
As for Disney Cruise Line, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will open to 2024 sailings and they announced their seventh ship would be the Disney Adventure.
