At the Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Washington, the long-awaited Samson Sky Switchblade, heralded as a “flying sports car,” recently completed its maiden flight.
“After 14 years of design and rigorous testing, our first flight is a huge milestone,” Sam Bousfield, CEO of Samson Sky and designer of the Switchblade, told New Atlas. “This puts us on the path towards producing thousands of Switchblades to meet the large and enthusiastic demand we’re receiving.”
Veteran test pilot Robert Moehle piloted the flying sports car during its inaugural flight. “The Switchblade handled great,” he remarked. “I’m excited to be the first to fly it away from the ground.” Moehle flew the car to an altitude of 500 feet, circling for approximately six minutes before landing triumphantly.
