Courtesy photo The Sting SC 11 girls Academy soccer team competed last weekend in the DPL Western Regionals in Provo, Utah, finishing in second place in the U14 Super Group bracket. The Sting started off with a 4-1 victory on Thursday over Albion SC Riverside 11G. Midfielder Lucy Doyle scored on an assist from Presley Moreau. The Sting next scored on a penalty kick from striker Presley Moreau, which was quickly followed up with a goal from forward Brightyn Gatten assisted by Olivia Nusser. The Sting’s final goal of the game came on an indirect kick from Presley Moreau. The Sting then beat the Rangers FC G11 5-1. Brightyn Gatten, Presley Moreau and Lucy Doyle each scored one goal for the Sting. Kylie Lorona scored two goals, on assists from MacKenzie Dolan and Brightyn Gatten. On Saturday afternoon the Sting lost 3-2 to the SDSC Surf 11G. Presley Moreau scored both goals for the Sting. Her first goal was from a penalty kick and her second goal came off a free kick from Olivia Nusser. The Sting SC faced SDSC once again in the final, falling 2-1 in overtime. Brightyn Gatten scored the tying goal for the Sting. The Sting’s second-place finish helped the team clinch a spot in the DPL Finals in Minnesota next June. They will continue their DPL season this upcoming weekend at home against WE Surf SC 11G and WE Surf SC Columbia Basin G11.
