Former University of Iowa basketball player Caitlin Clark became America’s sweetheart the last two years with her athletic performances on the basketball court. She spurred a renaissance of viewership for women’s college basketball as the sport set records for ratings in 2023 and 2024. This was particularly true for games featuring Clark broadcasted on network television. Now in the WNBA after being selected first overall by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA draft last week, Clark is arguably the current face of women’s sports in the nation.
Now, Clark’s voice is needed to help protect women in sports.
The legendary University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach made waves before the NCAA women’s basketball national championship game when she stated that biological men should be allowed to play in women’s sports during a press conference before the matchup. This led to widespread condemnation from many people, including former collegiate swimmer and noted outspoken critic of biological men in women’s sports Riley Gaines.
However, Gaines received some company this week when another women’s college basketball stalwart, former Louisiana State University basketball player Angel Reese, courageously took to X to call for protecting women in sports — a nod to the transgender assault on cultural, educational, and athletic norms in the country.

Reese was a controversial figure during her time at LSU. She gained notoriety for her taunting of Clark in the waning moments of LSU’s championship victory over Iowa in the 2023 national championship women’s basketball game. Yet, for all the criticism she received, she should be applauded for having enough bravery, courage, and guts to make such a statement. Such thoughts run counter to the maniacal and rabid social justice vultures of what I have designated as the transgender aggressive protectionism movement.
But now it’s time for her to take a stand to protect women’s sports. Now it’s time for Clark to denounce biological men participating in women’s sports. Making excuses for female athletes to remain silent has, in my opinion, always been a weak justification. That is even truer now in 2024, given the pushback against the progress and continued aggression of proponents of biological men playing in women’s sports. The time for half-measures and empty talk is over. Women in the spotlight must start taking a stand for themselves.
Clark is in the perfect position to do so. She has the country wrapped around her finger at the moment. She is a professional player, has signed her contract, and has signed a substantial multimillion-dollar sneaker endorsement deal with Nike. And given that the topic is in the news because of Dawn Staley’s and Reese’s comments, now is the perfect time for Clark to say something.

The only reason for her not to say something at this point, other than if she actually supports biological men competing in women’s sports, is timidity. Clark has all the leverage in this situation. She should use it.
Her words would go a long way in helping restore sanity to the country and reject the toxicity of the transgender aggressive protectionism movement.
