Walt Disney Imagineering shared a look at how they work with Disney Cruise Line to create the art displays featured on several Wish-class ships.
Designing the Animation Exhibits of DCL’s 1923
In an official post on Instagram, Disney Imagineering shared a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of assembling the art exhibits developed for Disney Cruise Line’s 1923 restaurants. In this case, we specifically get a look at the process for displays featured aboard the Disney Destiny.
The post introduces us to Alina, a set decorator with Walt Disney Imagineering, as she takes us through the process of creating displays like the Incredibles exhibit initially featured in the short clip.
As Alina explains, an Imagineering team first decides on films to showcase within these restaurant exhibits. They then collaborate with the Disney Animation Research Library in Glendale, CA to assemble original artwork and other art pieces such as maquettes that best encapsulate the films they’ve selected to highlight.
The teams come together to physically lay out the exhibit compositions and finalize art/prop choices before installation on new Disney Cruise Line ships in Germany.

1923 is a signature rotational dining restaurant aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ships, including the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny.
The restaurant’s name honors the founding year of The Walt Disney Company, grounding the experience in Disney history. The atmosphere is inspired by classic Hollywood aesthetics, and the dining space showcases dozens of these art exhibits – spotlighting hundreds of pieces of animation artwork, sketches, and design elements that celebrate Disney’s legacy.
