Romantic Getaways in the Midwest
By Marcia Frost
Valentine’s Day is coming up and it’s hard to find something to get your significant other. A trip away for two is something no one would want to return. If you are worried about extra cost because of the holiday, simply give the gift of a trip on February 14th for a getaway in the near future.
These are a few of my favorite places in the Midwest for romance.
Sable at Navy Pier
Chicago, Illinois
Beautiful views of Lake Michigan from every angle, terrific food at Lirica, and the largest rooftop in Chicago, Offshore, make Sable perfect for romance. This is the first hotel at Navy Pier, one of the most popular locations in Chicago. This Curio Collection of Hilton is just steps from scenic boat rides and fun at The Pier.
Eaglewood Resort & Spa
Itasca, Illinois
Many people don’t realize this full-service resort exists in the suburbs of Chicago. Rooms are large with scenic views. Eaglewood has everything you need, including four restaurants. There’s also an onsite spa, and even its own bowling alley. When the weather warms up, there are some of the best golf courses in the area here.

Indianapolis, Indiana
This stunning hotel was once a Coca-Cola factory. I love the quirkiness, especially the red doors which pay homage to the soda. It has a restaurant on site and is just across the street from the Garage Food Hall, where you can find every food you can imagine. You can also have some fun at Pin Mechanical.
Seldom Scene Meadow Bed & Breakfast
Richmond, Indiana
This B&B is welcoming inside and out. The owner supplies homemade breads and jams, offers local tips (there’s plenty to see and do in the area), and is ready to lend her hand for creative projects. Richmond is a historical area to explore. You might also want to check out the wine or chocolate trails throughout the region.
Inn at Bay Harbor
Bay Harbor, Michigan
Spread out along the blue waters of Lake Michigan, the Inn at Bay Harbor is ready for ice skating, snow shoeing, or just enjoying the outdoor hot tub. Three restaurants are available on site, as well as a full spa. Plan dinner at the Vintage Chophouse. If you want to go snow skiing, the front desk can arrange for you to go to one of its nearby sister properties.

Saugatuck, Michigan
One of Michigan’s most beautiful lakeside towns hosts the Hotel Saugatuck, a bed and breakfast that also has its own cottages. This adults-only historic property is your home for a romantic getaway with fireplaces, hydrotherapy tubs, and even a warm welcoming lobby with a grand piano. You don’t even have to leave your room as a gourmet breakfast will be delivered to you every morning.
