Royal Caribbean has canceled more than 20 sailings scheduled for summer 2027.
The cruise line informed impacted passengers via email last week that trips scheduled to depart in May through September 2027 have been suddenly canceled, according to the unaffiliated Royal Caribbean blog.
The cancellations affect all sailings aboard the Freedom of the Seas ship, including 9-night itineraries with port stops in Aruba and Curaçao, a 5-night voyage to the Dominican Republic and Perfect Day at CocoCay, and a 4-night trip to the Bahamas.
“Deployment planning is dynamic and regularly reviewed based on demand, capacity requirements, and broader fleet considerations,” the cruise line said in a statement to PEOPLE.
“As part of this process, we’ve made the decision to redeploy Freedom of the Seas to Southampton in 2027. Guests and travel partners are being contacted directly with details about their sailings and available options.”
Affected passengers can choose from several alternative sailings, according to the Royal Caribbean blog.
The first option is a 4-night trip aboard the Wonder of the Seas departing from Miami, Florida. Guests can also choose from a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Adventure of the Seas or a 3-night voyage to the Bahamas on the Jewel of the Seas.
“Regardless of the sailing length of the cruise you move to, if your booking was already paid in full and your cruise fare decreases, we’ll provide you with a refund for the difference,” the cruise line said in the email.
Guests who cannot find a new Royal Caribbean itinerary that works for them will receive a full refund of the paid cruise fare and any prepaid amenities.
Those who do not contact the cruise line by April 1, which is just a week away, will be automatically moved to the first sailing, which is the 4-night cruise aboard Wonder of the Seas departing on Sept. 20, 2027, according to the outlet.
