“Once You Get to a Certain Level” – Tony Stewart on What Makes Motorsports Superior to Other Sports Like Basketball or Football

Published 01/11/2023, 4:00 AM EST
Former NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is pretty much considered a jack of all trades. Aside from being a 3-time Cup Series champion, he is also an IndyCar champion and has dabbled in other forms of racing. Last year, the former Stewart-Haas Racing driver made an appearance on the Skinny Racing podcast. Over there, he compared the different forms of racing and what makes them unique.
He told the Skinny Racing Podcast, “That’s the great thing about motorsport. Not every division is for everybody, but I think once you get to a certain level. Especially when you’re at a level where you’re involved with a team or you’re driving a car of some kind. Once you get to that level and have a deeper appreciation for what it takes just to do that one avenue of it.”

“Then when you see other avenues, whether it’s NHRA or off-roading. I like off-road, I love side-by-sides too and got into that for a while. When I broke my back this last time, it tamed me down a little bit from doing all the crazy stuff that I like to do with it. I love it. I never drove anything where I got all four wheels off the ground on purpose, before in my life.”

What else did Tony Stewart say about motor racing?
According to him, when a driver reaches a certain level, they appreciate the importance of each racing discipline. They understand the work of establishing all the rules and regulations, and how much effort it takes. This ranges from snowmobiles, snowcross, arena cross, super-cross, IndyCar, NASCAR, NHRA, Sprint cars, and more. Stewart said that once a driver is in the thick of things, they appreciate all of it.

Currently, Stewart is plying his trade in the drag racing arena, specifically in the NHRA. In addition to that, he will be competing in the upcoming season of his own series, Superstar Racing Experience. Its inaugural season was already well-received, so the series can only go up from there.
