Deion Sanders Willing to Give Travis Hunter His Own Jim Thorpe Award After ‘Idiotic’ Snub Crushes His Dream

When life hands you lemons, most people make lemonade—but Coach Prime? Well, Deion Sanders turns them into a citrus empire! When his star two-way player Travis Hunter’s efforts got overlooked for a major award, Sanders didn’t just get angry; he’s prepared to make a significant change, risking his reputation and legacy. In Coach Prime’s world, trophies hold more than just symbolic value; they convey powerful messages. By emphasizing the significance of fairness in college sports, Sanders is initiating a thought-provoking shift in culture. One can’t help but wonder if this courageous decision will be the catalyst for a larger transformation or merely the first chapter in yet another daring saga by Sanders.
Deion Sanders can’t hold up anymore to the crap thrown at his team and his players. And Travis Hunter, not getting nominated for the most prestigious award for defensive back, which is the Jim Thorpe Award, took him on the verge of an outburst. No wonder Coach Prime doesn’t want the award for Hunter anymore, as he says on November 27 in Well Off Media. “So Travis could have my Thorpe Award because if this isn’t the most idiotic thing in college football, that he’s not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, and he is, I would say arguably, but I don’t think it’s really an argument about this young man being the best defensive back in college football,” he said. It’s a real shame that Travis’s incredible play hasn’t been getting the recognition it deserves. But Deion Sanders, the legendary defensive back who won the Jim Thorpe Award back in ’88, isn’t about to let that slide. He’s ready to go the extra mile to honor his talented two-way star.

Well, Travis Hunter is a ninja who can play on both sides of the field effortlessly. In defense, as a cornerback, he has scored 31 tackles and three interceptions. Now you can understand why Travis not getting included in this prestigious recognition is a big deal for Coach Prime. But if not the Jim Thorpe Award as a defensive back, Hunter is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the top WR in the country.
The three finalists that cut the Jim Thorpe award are Longhorns defensive back Jahdae Barron, Buckeyes defensive back Caleb Downs, and Bulldogs defensive back Malaki Starks. While all the players are deserving and talented, Hunter’s abilities aren’t getting the recognition they deserve, which many find unfair.

Joel Klatt siding with Travis Hunter
Travis Hunter is a big name in the world of college football, not only for his impressive skills on both offense and defense but also for his unmatched precision and execution in the game. Although he faced a setback because of injury, he made a remarkable comeback that left many questioning his worthiness as a Heisman contender. Even after securing the top position in the Heisman Trophy race, the comparisons between Ashton Jeanty and Hunter seem never-ending. No matter how hard Travis strives, there is always a minor factor that detracts from the recognition he truly deserves. Furthermore, his exclusion from the Jim Thorpe award added insult to injury.
Not only Coach Prime but also analyst Joel Klatt voiced his opinion on Buffs star two-way player Travis Hunter’s absence from the Jim Thorpe Award. The moment this news came out, Klatt made his stand pretty clear, siding with Hunter on not being included in the list, saying, “Not having Travis Hunter as a finalist for the Thorpe Award is crazy. It devalues the award. He is the best CB in CFB, and his numbers reflect that all his opponents know that.”

That’s a well-known fact. Hunter not only has jaw-dropping stats in defense with 568 snaps but also holds 437 snaps in offense. Even then, his talent is hindered. Now the question is whether this is a consequence of his past or just intensified dislike for the Buffs.
