The 2024 NFL Draft was a battle for quarterbacks. Six QBs were picked in the first round! It’s no wonder the 2025 NFL Draft class is finding it hard to keep up with their predecessors. But the QB talk hasn’t been quite prominent this season with players of other positions taking up the spotlight. And if you compare the strength of Shedeur Sanders’ batch with Caleb Williams’, it’s a sorry state.
Jason Fitz had been vocal about how the 2025 NFL Draft is less significant than the previous draft, particularly at the quarterback end. In a new X post on November 7 by Gojo and Golic, Fitz gave his take on the 2025 NFL QB class where Cam Ward tops the list, as per the odds. He said, “This year’s quarterback class, as we’ve said for months, is not very good in the draft… Whoever your top quarterback is, where would they have ranked in last year’s draft. And everybody I’ve talked to and ask that specific question to has given me the same answer. Six. Behind Bo Nix.”

According to early predictions on next year’s draft, Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers, and Carson Beck are the top quarterbacks entering the 2025 NFL Draft. But they’re not generating the fire that their previous batch has produced. The last draft was mostly about quarterbacks when we saw elite QBs like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and more take the center stage.

Jason Fitz isn’t the only one who’s aware of this slide in the QB strength. PFF also ranks the quarterback class of the 2025 NFL Draft “below average.” Miami’s Cam Ward tops the list as the potential top 1 QB off the board and a chance to win the Heisman Trophy. Shedeur and other highly-touted QBs like Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers all had explosive moments but not enough to keep the fire burning. But still, this drastic difference isn’t going to stop NFL teams from signing the best in the class.
Shedeur Sanders’ NFL draft stocks rise
The Carolina Panthers are among the QB-deficient teams whose best move is to draft a QB early. They’re 1-7 into the season so far and given the relaxation on the QB fight, they’ll have a good chance to draft the top QBs of the 2025 draft class like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

PFF’s latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft Round 1 has Shedeur as the top QB on board. Recording 2,591 yards and 21 touchdowns in eight games so far, the 22-year-old sits behind OT Will Campbell and CB/WR Travis Hunter at No. 3 as the favorite to land with the New Orleans Saints. While we’re not sure what’s going to happen in February next year, as far as batch strength comparison goes, we have to say each season can’t be a replica of the previous season. No matter the strength difference, there’s always a chance that the underrated ones become some of the GOATs.
