Boston MA weather: Wintry conditions, snow chances starting today

Happy Tuesday! We might be getting a break from the bitter cold this week, but we’re not getting a break from the snow! In fact, we’re tracking a few chances for snow, starting with Tuesday.
A weak system from the northwest will bring a few snow flurries and brief snow showers, along with areas of patchy freezing drizzle to the region this morning and possibly into the early afternoon. Temperatures have been below freezing this morning, but by this afternoon, highs will climb into the mid and upper 30s.
Little to no snow accumulation is expected for much of Greater Boston, but let’s be careful. Freezing drizzle could still produce some slippery surfaces here and there, especially on some bridges and sidewalks.
First Alert issued for Wednesday
Wednesday is a First Alert. A frontal system will stall across our area, giving way to a rain/snow mix. We’ll have to watch the temperatures through the day.
Why, you ask?
Well, the temperatures will play a huge role in what kind of precipitation we’ll see as we move through the day. In fact, this event may start as snow early on north of the Pike and start as rain south of the Pike, especially as temperatures begin to warm into the upper 30s and lower 40s. But later in the day, rain will transition to snow south of the Pike through the evening.
Weather
The snow consistency will likely be more of a wet snow based on our temperature profile. Much of Greater Boston and Greater Worcester will see between one and three inches of snow. Parts of southeastern Mass. will see a coating up to one inch of snow.
Further west toward the Berkshires, higher amounts are likely. We’ll keep you posted to any chances with Wednesday’s forecast. For now, the rain and snow will likely produce some minor travel impacts.
Thursday is the pick of the week! We’ll see partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 30s. Enjoy Thursday because by the time Friday rolls around, we’ll be tracking yet another chance of snow, especially by Friday evening.
A few inches are possible Friday into early Saturday morning. And our forecast keeps the chance of snow around through the weekend and possibly into early next week.
