“Don’t forget to tip your bartender” might be this woman’s greeting for every guest she serves.
A bartender went viral on TikTok after posting a video saying she made just $10 working a 70-hour shift at a sports bar.
The clip that’s been viewed over 965,000 times caused an uproar when bartender Aaliyah Cortez preached “why you should always tip your bartenders” to viewers.
“This is my hourly for two weeks, I worked almost 71 hours. I get paid $2.13 an hour as a bartender and a server,” a disgruntled Cortez says.
“I should have made $150.81 but because I have to have social security, Medicare and income tax taken out, I was paid $9.28 for 70 hours of work,” the bartender added.
During the vid, Cortez — who has worked at the bar for over a year — displays her work check close up and points to the amount she made after working the nearly 70-hour shift.
The bartender goes on to explain why she made such little pay and tells viewers she had social security, Medicare and fed income tax deducted from her pay.
Cortez says she get’s tipped, but it most likely doesn’t make up for working all those hours and being compensated such little pay.
“Of course, I got tips but this is what I got for my hourly. This is why you tip.”

TikTok users flooded the comment section, with some even showing their frustration for Cortez not leaving the job and wanting better for herself.
“That’s [your] choice and you knew what the pay was.. so I see nothing wrong here, 70 hours for 2 weeks isn’t even considered full time either,” a user replied.
Another replier simply says, “then don’t be a server?” to which Cortez snaps back, “I like my job.”

Other users expressed their sympathy for Cortez’s job earnings.
“People saying it’s not the customers problem: should we all quit our jobs? who’s gonna serve you then? 🤡 this is standard in America,” a commenter coming to Cortez’s defense says.
“No mam, your bar/restaurant is getting free labor and that’s not ok,” another supportive user declared.
“I don’t get why people go to restaurants and and can’t leave a decent tip like just go to a fast food place instead,” another says.
Cortez followed up with another vid that went viral for clarifying she does, indeed, make good tip money and, in fact, loves what she does for a living as a bartender.
“I like my job. Bartending, serving, it’s fun. However, I don’t agree with the state laws that allow restaurants to pay under minimum wage and expect the customer to pay our wages,” Cortez says.
