Alex Morgan Reflects on $3 Million Profit as 4-Year-Old Startup Boosts Women’s Sports Growth: “Lot of Men Repping These”

“Everyone Watches Women’s Sports.” The message seemed clear printed in capital letters on a plain back t-shirt. In fact, it was hard to miss, given how it was being publicly endorsed by names you wouldn’t even imagine. While the aim of the t-shirts launched by the company named Togethxr is exactly what it says—to grow women’s sports—little did many think it would generate a $3 million profit. As a founder of this 4-year-old startup, even Alex Morgan is surprised.
Well, she isn’t alone; the soccer legend co-founded this media and commerce company with iconic names like the basketball icon Sue Bird, swimmer Simone Manuel, and snowboarder Chloe Kim. And the aim is clearly a response to the typical jab taken on women’s sports.
“It was really meant for a platform for fans and women, female athletes alike, to come together and feel like they had a community, a supportive community,” began Morgan while having a brief chat on the latest episode of the Boardroom.

“Felt like there was a storytelling platform for female athletes to be able to share their stories and for fans to be able to consume those stories in a way that a platform was never given prior to that,” said Morgan.
But what began as a tool to create an empathetic community has done more than that. Not only did the merchandise send the required message to the whole world, but it also touched untapped peripheries. “We’re seeing these shirts at all sporting events, walking around the street. It’s not only women wearing them. There’s a lot of men repping these shirts or hoodies,” added Morgan.

It’s actually true!
Last January, the head coach of the University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball team Dawn Staley proudly donned the “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports” t-shirt during a pregame interview. That gesture was alone to spark a social media buzz, sending the message subtly and clearly.
Additionally, April 2024 saw renowned comedian and actor Jason Sudeikis sport a different version of the t-shirt during the women’s N.C.A.A. tournament finals, with beautiful yellow lettering. Additionally, Jimmy Fallon received it as a gift from recently retired W.N.B.A. legend Sue Bird during an episode of “The Tonight Show.”
It’s almost as if the ‘Everyone Watches Women’s Sports’ T-shirt has become the unofficial uniform for advocating the protection of women’s sports. No wonder it has achieved more than just sparking a revolutionary change in how people view sports across genders—it’s also making an impact financially!

How did Alex Morgan’s company ‘exceeded’ all expectations with million-dollar profits?
Despite having established it just a few years ago, Alex Morgan insisted she never imagined the growth and impact the Togethxr would have. “It was only built almost four years ago, and to think about how far we’ve come, not only as a brand, but also women’s sports in general, I think we launched at the perfect time,” said the 2x World Champion in the same segment.
“It has really exceeded any and all expectations. To be able to co-found it with three other Olympic medalists and best athletes in their own sports, nothing feels better than that,” concluded Morgan.

Perhaps it can be called one of the most successful ventures (particularly related to merchandise). Within seven months, it managed to generate a whopping $3 million, which, mind you, continues to more than double. All that was possible by just selling these $45 t-shirts and even $85 hoodies!
