Béis founder Shay Mitchell spills her best travel packing tips

When it comes to travel savvy, Shay Mitchell is ahead of the pack.
The star’s Béis luggage brand — which dropped its first Commuter Collection on Tuesday — has racked up legions of loyal fans over the years, including fellow stars like Hailey Bieber and Ariana Madix.
So when preparing for her own getaways, the actress-turned-mogul — and self-proclaimed “big overpacker” — has a bag full of tricks.
“It may seem obvious, but the best way to maximize space is to be organized,” she tells Page Six Style of making the most of precious suitcase real estate.
“If I’m tight for space — and honestly, I am a big overpacker — then I also like to roll each item of clothing,” says Mitchell. Instagram/beis
“I am a big believer in the power of the packing cube. Once I tried them I was fully converted and have never looked [back].”
In addition to making the case for suitcase separators like the Béis Packing Cubes ($68) — “a cube for intimates, a cube for dresses, a cube for each kid … done and dusted,” she instructs — her tips include rolling each item of clothing when she’s “tight for space.”
“The best news is that our bags are designed for the maximalist … compression-strap, unzip and pocket your way to fitting it all,” adds Mitchell, who tells us she brings a checked bag on every trip. (“I plead the fifth,” she quipped of how long she could last away from home with just a carry-on.)
In addition to her Béis bags, Mitchell says she can’t travel without a “portable phone charger, wipes for the plane, reusable water bottle with my flavor of Hydralyte, my chili oil and a good book.” Instagram/beis
From a Barbie brand collaboration to its latest Commuter Collection, Béis has continued to expand its offerings over the years. BEIS
Fittingly, her brand offers suitcases in a range of sizes — including two of her personal go-tos, the East to West Tote ($108) and Carry-On Roller ($218) — plus the just-launched Commuter Collection, which puts an office-ready spin on spinning luggage and cute carryalls alike.
The fresh line features seven styles available in both beige and black, ranging from the trendy Belt Bag ($48), Commuter Tote ($118) and Commuter Backpack ($98) to a new take on the brand’s bestselling carry-on.
“The outside-access pocket on the carry-on is probably the hero of the collection, and a direct result of consumer feedback,” the “You” star raves of the Front Pocket Carry-On ($248).

And while plenty of stars have been spotted lugging her luggage, Mitchell says these “Béis in the wild” moments never get old, telling us she’s not afraid of “going up to strangers in the airport who are carrying Béis and telling them how stoked I am.”
“And trust, if I am not going up to you, I am recording,” she adds. “Every time someone travels, I get a ‘pap shot’ of one of our bags. They’re the real celebs here.”
