Walmart Should Stick to the Basics

To the Editor:
As a Walmart shareholder, I am very pleased by the stock price appreciation and success as a super omnichannel retailer (“Walmart Takes Flight,” Cover Story, July 7). But as a shopper, I am dismayed by the large price increases on everyday household items in the past few years. A prepandemic gallon of Walmart drinking water went from 88 cents to $1.16, Walmart mustard jumped from 99 cents to $1.50, and store-brand salad dressing from $1.25 to $1.95. These are large price increases from the “value based” retail giant—something working families feel and undoubtedly struggle with.
