Driving means staying focused on the road. In fact, the Highway Code does not forgive those who entertain themselves with Smartphones in the car … but not even with the satellite navigator. It sounds absurd, but you don’t have to use it.
Since it exists the satellite navigator, travel has become much simpler: even a novice who does not know the streets of a given city at all can reach any neighborhood, potentially, without maps or roadways. The other side of the coin? Using GPS too often or at the wrong times could cost you a very serious fine.
An invention that saves you
Imagine how tiring it must have been making home deliveries twenty, thirty years ago when the satellite navigator had not yet been invented. Not that today it’s not hard work but at least, riders can find their way around with relative ease even in a neighborhood they have never been to thanks to this device that allows anyone to move anywhere!
Set up the GPS in the car it is very easy, often a Smartphone is enough with Google Maps or Wayz or any other application that has maps, which can be downloaded to the mobile phone so that they can be used even in the absence of an internet connection. In addition, there are many cheap supports online to mount your cell phone so that you don’t have to hold it in your hand while driving. And in this regard …
You knew it?
If you deliver for Deliveroo or if you travel a lot using your mobile and the navigator at your disposal, you will be interested in knowing this thing: holding your mobile phone with the satellite navigator open, even if you have both eyes on the road and you just listen to the voice instructions without looking at the screen for a moment, is an infringement of the Highway Code. And not a slight one.
The traffic police or the police could make your life very difficult even if they saw you take your cell phone instantly at a stop or after they stop you. All this “thanks” to Article 173 of the Highway Code which in its Paragraph 2 provides a penalty for the use of “Accessories that keep your hands busy” in a running car. Fortunately, there are many solutions.
A little money is enough
The first solution is to keep the mobile phone on the seat or even better on the dashboard so as to give him a fleeting glance when needed and above all to be able to listen to the directions. If you have an AUX cable maybe you can connect it directly to the stereo. The second, much more convenient and in any case at virtually no cost, involves a ride on Amazon in search of a mobile phone holder that can be mounted in the car. There are dozens of them online!
If you don’t care and you prefer keep driving with mobile phone in hand, know that the fine for inappropriate use of GPS is not light. For nothing. Depending on the seriousness of the infringement, you will receive a fine between 161 and 646 Euros, but that’s not all. Get them caught within two years to do it again and they’ll take your license away for a minimum of a month.
