REMUS – Gage Saathoff finished his third season of varsity baseball as his best year, but is looking to pull out all the stops at Chippewa Hills as he gets ready for his senior campaign.
The Warriors had a competitive season and took eventual district champion Clare down to the wire in a semifinal game before ending their season.
“I’ve been hitting the ball a lot better,” he said late in the season, pointing to a .300 average. He had a key triple for the Warriors in a game against Newaygo at Cornerstone University, perhaps his biggest hit of the season.
Saathoff saw action on the mound for the Warriors.
“It’s had its ups and downs,” he said. “I’ve had a good curveball.”
Defensively, Saathoff played a lot of first base and center field and was able to handle the flyballs throughout the season for coach Ben Wright’s team.
The Warriors finished the season around .500.
“We’ve been doing good,” Saathoff said. “We just have to keep hitting the ball.”
Saathoff entered the summer realizing, as a three-sport athlete, he would be very busy with other sports. Football practices will officially start in early August along with some summer stuff.
He also was slated to be busy while the Warrior basketball team had its summer workouts. But as a Chippewa Hills senior, Saathoff is excited with prospects for football, basketball and baseball during the 2023-24 Warrior sports season.
